Holiday travelers should expect Sea-Tac crowds
Passengers using Sea-Tac Airport during the four-day Fourth of July weekend should be prepared for larger than normal crowds - starting on Friday.
On Friday, the airport expects to see 110,000 arriving and departing passengers, said Bob Parker, Sea-Tac spokesman.
That compares to an average day, when the airport handles about 70,000 to 80,000 passengers.
Departures on Friday are expected to start peaking in the afternoon. Parker said arrivals most likely would be higher than normal Friday evening.
"Normally, the Fourth of July isn't that big of a holiday, but because it falls on a Tuesday, it makes for a nice long weekend," he said.
On Wednesday, the airport expects to accommodate 100,000 arriving and departing passengers. Passenger traffic this weekend will not be as high as Friday and Wednesday, he added.
Parker suggests that passengers arrive at Sea-Tac at least two hours before their flights depart so they will have enough time to check in.
They also should take only two carry-on bags, such as a purse, briefcase or small suitcase, on board. That should cut down on the time passengers have to wait in security lines.
Fireworks are not allowed in baggage.
