Motorcyclist shoots, wounds man; suspect held
Victim flags down deputy; collision likely led to altercation
A motorcyclist shot and wounded a man late Monday, apparently after a traffic altercation.
King County sheriff's deputies arrested a 48-year-old Woodinville man after the bleeding victim flagged down a passing deputy. The suspect was booked into the King County Jail for investigation of first-degree assault and is being held without bail.
The shooting happened about 10:30 p.m. in the 13200 block of 100th Avenue Northeast in the Juanita area near Kirkland, Deputy Rodney Chinnick said.
Investigators believe that the 23-year-old victim, driving a small compact, and the gunman, riding a motorcycle, were involved in a collision, Chinnick said.
"There were definitely pieces of damaged motorcycle in the roadway," he said.
The motorcyclist pulled a handgun and fired several shots, hitting the victim several times.
The victim, bleeding and staggering, managed to call 911 and get the attention of a passing deputy, Chinnick said.
The gunman was walking away, but the young man who had been shot was able to point him out to the deputy, who promptly arrested him.
The deputy did not find a firearm on the man he detained, but another deputy with a tracking dog found a handgun believed to have been used in the shooting.
The victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center with what Chinnick described as life-threatening injuries. Because of privacy laws, his condition was unavailable.
The suspect has no known criminal record in Washington, but has been cited three times since July 2004 for traffic violations, including his most recent citation for reckless driving from an April incident in Redmond.
