Defender Association picks new director
A longtime attorney and supervisor has been chosen to head The Defender Association, King County's oldest agency to provide publicly funded attorneys for people accused of crimes.
Floris Mikkelsen has been deputy director of the agency since 2002. Before that, she led its misdemeanor unit for 13 years and was a trial attorney for seven, handling juvenile cases, misdemeanors, civil commitments and several murder cases.
She graduated from the Antioch School of Law and has a master of divinity degree from Pacific School of Religion, according to the association.
The association's board of directors chose Mikkelsen to replace Bob Boruchowitz, who, after 33 years with the agency, has taken a visiting professor position at Seattle University School of Law.
