Storm toll at 8, including wrecks, electrocution, carbon monoxide
From falling trees to carbon monoxide poisoning, electrocution, fire and drowning, the windstorm that hit Western Washington on Thursday and Friday brought death in a chilling variety of ways. In all, at least eight people have been killed.
One was Kate Fleming, 41, who drowned in her Madison Valley basement Thursday night, trapped inside by rapidly rising floodwaters
The last was a man who appeared to be in his mid-30s and was electrocuted when he stepped on a downed power line while out walking his dog Sunday afternoon in Gig Harbor.
In between:
In the Gig Harbor incident, neighbors had been cleaning up debris around the power line for days, unaware that it was live, said Ed Troyer, spokesman for the Pierce County Sheriff's Office. The man and his dog were dead at the scene.
People are advised to treat every fallen power line as if it were live and to stay at least 10 feet away.
