Robbery suspect might be connected to other holdups

By CASEY MCNERTHNEY
P-I REPORTER

Seattle Police said a man arrested after he robbed the Wedgwood Market at gunpoint Friday night could be connected to at least four other Seattle robberies.

About 8 p.m., police said the man in his late 20s or early 30s entered the grocery store at 6256 35th Ave NE wearing a dark ski mask. The man fled in a car after stealing an unspecified amount of money, department spokesman Mark Jamieson said.

Witnesses called 911 while following him back to the 5200 block of Methune Place Northeast.

"Officers found the car and apparently the suspect had run into an apartment," Jamieson said. "They did some negotiating and eventually the suspect came out and was taken into custody without incident."

Jamieson said the man was being interviewed late Friday by robbery detectives, who are investigating a possible connection to Thursday's robbery at a Wedgwood neighborhood Domino's Pizza. They also are trying to determine if he is the same man who robbed a pizza shop in the 6200 block of Sand Point Way Northeast on July 29 and a Capitol Hill drug store on July 11.

Police noticed similarities in the four previous holdups, where a man who disguised himself with a hood and hat pulled over his face robbed employees at gunpoint, Jamieson said. No injuries were reported in any of the holdups.
