Hazmat call at police headquarters

P-I STAFF

Seattle firefighters were called to Seattle police headquarters after someone there reported finding an envelope with white powder inside.

The envelope was sent to the eighth floor, which is where the police chief's office in located.

The incident was reported just past 9:15 a.m. Tuesday and forced the closure of the northbound lane of Fifth Avenue used by Metro Transit buses.

A hazardous materials team was called to the building and were working to determine what was sent in the envelope.
