A magnitude 4.0 earthquake shook the Olympic Peninsula on Monday, but no damage or injuries were immediately reported.
The light quake, which occurred at 10:18 p.m., was centered about six miles north of Brinnon with a depth of 34 miles, according to the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network.
Wendy Forsyth, interim manager at the Bayshore Motel in Brinnon, was in the motel office when she felt a jolt, similar to when large trucks pass on nearby U.S. Route 101. She heard rattling in the Bayshore laundry room and glasses clanging against each other in the kitchen. Forsyth said she thought her daughter's roller shoes were responsible.
"I yelled back at her to stop kicking things around," Forsyth said. "I didn't know what it was until my son came down and said we had an earthquake."
Several dozen Seattle residents reported feeling the quake on the Network's Web site, despite being more than 25 miles from where it was centered.
A Jefferson County Sheriff's Office dispatcher said about 11:30 p.m. no damage or injuries were reported.
The Olympic Peninsula quake was the third Washington earthquake on Monday, according to the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network.
A micro earthquake, magnitude 2.0, occurred just past midnight Monday on Mount St. Helens. A 2.5-magnitude micro earthquake was recorded about 6 miles from Ashford at 2:43 a.m.
A 1.8-magnitude micro earthquake also occurred Sunday at 3:59 a.m., 9 miles from Benton City in Eastern Washington.
