Four nonprofit organizations in King County will share $2.35 million in grants to help provide housing and social services for homeless families over the next five to 10 years.
The local awards are part of $5.5 million in grants in 10 counties to be announced Thursday by the Washington Families Fund, a private-public partnership supported by the state, corporations and foundations.
The statewide grants will finance 225 units of housing with services for more than 1,000 families.
The largest grant, $945,000, will help 342 families at Hopelink's Avondale Park, a transitional housing project in Redmond.
Other King County recipients are Sound Mental Health's Project Homestead ($562,500 for mental health, chemical dependency and case management), the Church Council of Greater Seattle's HomeStep ($420,000 for job training and children's services) and Consejo Counseling and Referral Service's Villa Esperanza ($420,000 for case management and advocacy for domestic violence survivors).
In Snohomish County, Housing Hope and Volunteers of America will share $602,500 for chemical dependency treatment, case management, job coordination, life skills training, children's services and health care.
