A 55-year-old Federal Way man was injured early Friday when his garage caught fire, according to a spokeswoman for South King County Fire and Rescue.
Firefighters were called to a house at Eight Avenue South and South 293rd Street at 2:45 a.m., said spokeswoman Kendra Kay. The garage was on fire and neighbors were putting water on the burned man in his backyard.
Mechanical problems with a medical helicopter prevented him from being airlifted to Harborview Medical Center; instead, he was transported by King County Medic One.
As firefighters worked, the roof collapsed. They were able to contain the blaze in about 30 minutes, Kay said. Damage is estimated at $500,000.
The man, whose name hasn't been released, is in critical condition at Harborview, she said.
