Police: Federal Way woman strangled

The King County Medical Examiner's Office reported Friday that a woman slain earlier this week in Federal Way was strangled and beaten.

Jane Carol Britt, 75, was found dead in her parked car Wednesday afternoon. Her slaying remains unsolved.

A man sought by Federal Way police investigating the slaying has been found and is no longer considered a person of interest.

The man contacted police on his own Friday after authorities released videotape from a surveillance camera that showed him walking near the nursing home where Britt was found dead.

The man had a legitimate reason to be in the area at the time and was not a suspect in Britt's slaying, police spokeswoman Cathy Schrock said.

"Now, we concentrate on forensics," she said. "And we start following up on wherever the forensics lead us."

Detectives spent Friday examining Britt's gold Mercedes-Benz, the vehicle where she was found dead on Wednesday afternoon.

Police believe that Britt went to the Garden Terrace Alzheimer Center, 491 S. 338th St., for one of her twice-daily visits to her husband, Frank Britt. The husband has been a patient at the nursing home for the past two years.

On Wednesday, one of Britt's sons called police after his mother failed to make several appointments. Police discovered her body in the car that afternoon. The vehicle was still in the parking lot of the nursing home.

Police are stymied as to the motivation for the killing.

Britt was a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Before she retired, she was an accountant who worked out of her home. Her husband retired from The Boeing Co. She, along with her husband, was a long-term resident of Federal Way.
