Has the Green Lake flasher returned?

By LEVI PULKKINEN
P-I REPORTER

Seattle University student Lily Istrate and a friend were wrapping up their workout at Green Lake on Tuesday night when a man wearing no pants crossed their path.

Istrate said she was doing lunges just after 8 p.m. during her second lap around the lake when she saw the man on the path ahead of her and her friend. She said he drew her attention because he stared at the women as he approached.

At first, Istrate thought the man was wearing very short shorts. But as he grew closer, she realized he was nude from the waist down.

"I could see most of his white legs even in the dark from pretty far," Istrate said. "It was cold out last night, so I remember thinking 'Why the hell is that guy wearing such short shorts?' Of course, as he got closer I realized he wasn't wearing shorts at all."

Istrate and her friend fled, but spotted the man hurriedly pulling on a pair of pants near the park's tennis courts.

Tuesday's flashing follows a similar incident in January, when a man displayed his genitals in front of a 24-year-old woman who was jogging on the popular trail.

According to police reports, the woman said she'd been flashed by the same man a few weeks before.

She described him as an avid runner with short brown hair who is about 5 feet 7 inches tall.

Istrate said the man who flashed her generally matched that description.

She said he was wearing a dark-colored jacket and appeared to be in his 20s or 30s.

A Seattle police spokesman said he was not aware of any similar incidents around Green Lake.

Istrate said the incident was disturbing, but she'll still be running around the lake.

"It almost makes me want to go back more," she said, although she said she could do without any more flashing.
