Man, 64, arrested in death of his wife last September

By SCOTT GUTIERREZ
P-I REPORTER

A 64-year-old man was arrested Thursday in connection with the death of his wife of more than 20 years, who had been fatally shot inside the couple's home east of Kent last September, the King County Sheriff's Office reported.

On Sept. 2, Nancy Floren, 56, was found lying in the hallway of the couple's home after deputies were summoned by a security alarm. She had been shot twice in the head. Lying near her was a revolver, although it later turned out not to be the murder weapon.

On Thursday, her husband was overseeing construction of a new home in Sequim that was meant to be the couple's "dream home" when he was arrested by sheriff's deputies and Sequim police officers, sheriff's Sgt. John Urquhart said.

Detectives had physical evidence connecting him to the slaying, as well as statements he made that contradicted other information investigators were able to verify, Urquhart said.

"It looked to us like the crime scene had been made to look like a burglary," he said.

The suspect was expected to be booked into the King County Jail for investigation of homicide and would likely make a first court appearance on Friday. The P-I does not normally name suspects until they have been formally charged in court.

The suspect had retired from Boeing after his wife's killing, gave away the family's pets and put the couple's former home in the 20300 block of 102nd Avenue Southeast up for sale, Urquhart said.

Investigators have not found the murder weapon, Urquhart said.
