Man leaps out of hospital window

By HECTOR CASTRO
P-I REPORTER

A man leapt out of a fifth-floor window at Harborview Medical Center on Wednesday, landing on the roof of the emergency room ramp.

The incident happened just past noon, said Seattle fire spokeswoman Helen Fitzpatrick.

The man, in his 30s, was a patient at the hospital, she said. He jumped through a plate glass window and landed the roof of the ramp, used by ambulances pulling up to the emergency room.

Seattle firefighters had to carry the man off the roof and into the hospital. He suffered multiple fractures, Fitzpatrick said, and was in critical condition.

Seattle police are investigating the incident.
