Seattle filmmakers held in Nigeria heading home

P-I STAFF

A Seattle film crew arrested in Nigeria a week ago is expected to return home Sunday, officials with the film project announced.

The crew included director Sandy Cioffi, producer Tammi Sims, and photojournalists Sean Porter and Cliff Worsham.

They are scheduled to hold a press conference Sunday afternoon after arriving at Sea-Tac Airport and are expected to discuss their ordeal and conditions in the Niger Delta.

The filmmakers were detained April 12th by Nigerian government officials. They had entered the country legally to work on their documentary, "Sweet Crude," which examines the oil industry's impact on Nigeria's economy and environment.

The Nigerian government released the group after the intervention of several American government officials, including Sens. Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray, D-Wash.
