Bruce Shepard, chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, is likely to become the next president of Western Washington University.
Western's trustees have named Shepard as their preferred candidate and may make their selection final on Friday.
Shepard will visit the Western campus on Thursday and Friday to meet students, faculty and staff. Shepard has been chancellor at Green Bay since November 2001. He also was a provost and political science professor at Eastern Oregon University and a professor at Oregon State University.
Karen Morse, Western's current president, announced last fall that she will retire Sept. 1.
