Men attacked with tire iron at soccer game

By SCOTT GUTIERREZ
P-I REPORTER

Two men were arrested for attacking two other men with a tire iron and knife during a soccer game in Kent on Sunday, police reported.

The fight happened during a Hispanic Soccer League game at Kent Meridian High School's French Field. The suspects came to the match looking for a man whom they'd argued with at a party on Saturday night, Kent police said.

The victim was watching the match with a friend who tried to defend him. Both were taken to Auburn Regional Medical Center with non-fatal injuries.

Several witnesses called 911 Sunday morning and police arrived quickly enough to stop the suspects, both in their 20s, from driving away. Both suspects were arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault. One was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The second suspect was booked into the Kent City Jail, police reported.
