Seattle police are asking the public for help identifying the man who punched and seriously injured a University of Washington resident physician during a fight last weekend in Belltown.
The victim, 36, was walking with his girlfriend and three others from a nightclub early Sunday when two men approached from behind near Third Avenue and Cedar Street, according to a police report.
They got into an argument, and one of the men punched the victim, causing him to fall and strike his head on the sidewalk, Seattle police reported.
The victim was in serious condition at Harborview Medical Center's intensive care unit, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Police did not release the victim's name.
A witness called 911 at 2:09 a.m. Sunday and reported that five men were fighting in the street. The two assailants ran off before officers drove up.
One wore a red shirt and blue jeans. The other wore a black shirt and jeans, according to a police report.
"We have very little information," police spokesman Jeff Kappel said.
Anyone with information is urged to call the Seattle Police Department's Homicide and Assault unit at 206-684-5550.
