An Auburn man faces a first-degree murder charge after the man he's accused of shooting during a Burien bar fight died of his injuries.
King County prosecutors filed the new charge Wednesday against Bruce Matagi, who was charged with attempted murder earlier this week. Matagi, 27, is accused of shooting Ben Laumea, 35, early Sunday. Laumea died the next day at Harborview Medical Center.
Police say a fight broke out at the MVP Sports bar just before 1 a.m. Sunday. Matagi is accused of retrieving a gun, then firing several rounds at the ceiling before shooting Laumea, who tried to take cover behind the bar.
If convicted of murder and illegally possessing a firearm, Matagi could face 26 to 33 years in prison. He remains behind bars at the Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent on $3 million bail.
