Luck was on the side of a suspected car prowler, who came under fire Saturday afternoon after allegedly pulling a gun on a Federal Way police officer.
The gunfire missed the suspected thief, however, who was later arrested by police.
Federal Way police spokeswoman Cathy Schrock said the shooting happened just before 4:45 p.m. near South 324th Street and Pacific Highway South.
The officer, who has been with the department for two years, was on routine patrol when he saw someone he believed was attempting to break into a car.
The officer tried to detain the man, but the suspect ran off. During the chase, the man allegedly pointed a handgun at the officer, who responded by shooting at the suspected car prowler.
The man was not hit and kept on running. Other officers arrived and were able to capture the man, described as being in his 20s.
Neither the officer nor the suspect were hurt, Schrock said. The officer was placed on administrative leave per department policy. The shooting is under investigation.
