Coast Guard helps disabled cruise ship from Seattle

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- The Coast Guard has escorted a disabled Seattle-based cruise ship to Juneau, Alaska's Auke Bay.

The Coast Guard cutter Liberty accompanied the 143-foot Spirit of Columbia, which arrived in Juneau under its own power around 5 p.m. Sunday.

The cruise ship lost power to both generators Saturday night with 89 people on board. Coast Guard officials say the ship, operated by Cruise West of Seattle, also was operating on one of two propeller engines when it ran into trouble about 80 miles south of Juneau.

There were no reported injuries on board.
