Seattle police on Wednesday continue to investigate a shooting at a West Seattle home that left a woman and her son badly hurt.
The shooting was reported at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday at a home in the 5600 block of Delridge Way Southwest, police spokeswoman Renee Witt said.
The mother, a 28-year-old woman, was cooking in her kitchen, Witt said, when somebody opened fire through a window, striking her several times in the chest and leg.
Then, Witt said, a gunman opened fire from a window on the other side of the residence, striking the woman's 10-year-old son in the shoulder.
It was unclear whether there was more than one gunman, police said.
The mother and son were both taken to Harborview Medical Center. Their conditions are unknown, though both are expected to survive.
"We don't know if they were actually the intended targets, or whether there was somebody else," Assistant Police Chief Nick Metz said. "It appears at this time they were the only two in the house."
Witnesses followed a burgundy SUV that police believe one or two suspects used to leave the scene. Officers said the witnesses gave up after additional shots were fired. Witt confirmed one other person was shot at, but not hit.
Police found shell casings on the side of the building. A search of the area following the shooting did not result in any arrests and no arrest had been made as of Wednesday morning.
The shooting is being investigated by homicide and gang unit detectives, Witt said.
