Arsonist strikes South Seattle

By HECTOR CASTRO
P-I REPORTER

Someone set off a series of arsons early Wednesday to several trash bins in South Seattle, injuring no one, but keeping firefighters scrambling.

The first fire was reported in Georgetown at 1:48 a.m. near the corner of Fourth Avenue South and South Brandon Street, fire department spokeswoman Helen Fitzpatrick said.

From there, the arsonist moved north with the second fire reported at 2:10 a.m., several blocks away in the 4400 block of Fourtth Avenue.

Continuing the northward trek, the third trash bin fire was reported at 2:44 a.m. at Fourth Avenue and South Lander Street.

Two more fires were reported at 3:12 a.m. at 4th and South Holgate Street.

All of the fires were confined to the trash containers, Fitzpatrick said, and there were no injuries.

Seattle police sent out extra patrols into the neighborhoods and used a K9 officer and dog team in an effort to track the person or people involved. But no arrests were made Wednesday morning, police spokesman Mark Jamieson said.

He added that police had no good descriptions to go on.
