Texas man wanted for sexual assault busted on The Victoria Clipper

By CASEY MCNERTHNEY
P-I REPORTER

A Texas man wanted for aggravated sexual assault on a child was arrested Saturday in Seattle when he arrived on the Victoria Clipper.

Clyde Randall Brodnax, 61, had a felony warrant issued by the Dallas County Sheriff's Office three days before his arrest. The warrant was discovered in a national criminal information database during a name check when the Hutchins, Texas, man tried to enter the United States.

The Dallas County Sheriff's Office was contacted and verified the warrant. Brodnax was arrested by Customs and Border Protection and turned over to the Port of Seattle police.

"A lot of people think we only cover the borders on the land," U.S. Customs and Border Protection Chief Thomas Schreiber said. "But on the water, that's also the area we cover. It doesn't matter how you get here."

Schreiber did not have more details about Brodnax's crime, and a copy of his warrant was not available, said a Dallas County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman, who did not have more information on the case.

Brodnax had not returned to Dallas County on Tuesday, according to the Dallas County Jail roster.
