The Seattle Housing Authority plans to transfer ownership of its low-income Morrison Hotel today, ending months of protests from homeless advocates.
The non-profit Downtown Emergency Service Center will take over the low-income apartment building at little or no cost, but will assume payment of $1.5 million owed a 1981 senior housing levy. The transfer ends months of debate, as the housing authority, the city and non-profit groups sought to address crime, management and safety issues at the building, at 509 Third Ave. The emergency service center currently runs an 205-bed overnight shelter on the second floor.
