The former associate pastor of Calvin Presbyterian Church in Richmond Beach alleged in a federal court suit that the church's pastor had sexually harassed her.
Monica Elvig, 36, alleged that shortly after she was hired in December 2000 at the 600-member church, Pastor Will Ackles began harassing her.
She said she rebuffed his advances "to no avail" and also complained to a church official.
Ackles retaliated by removing certain duties and verbally abusing her, the suit said. He also circulated confidential information and misrepresented her psychological condition, the suit said.
Church administrator Barbara Rood said yesterday the church would have no comment.
Elvig's complaint ultimately went to the North Puget Sound Presbytery, which investigated and fired her on Dec. 19. Elvig said the presbytery has prevented her from getting another pastoral job.
The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission investigated and said it was unable to establish if the defendants had violated discrimination laws.
Named as defendants in the suit are the church, Ackles and the presbytery.
