Hit-and-run driver gets seven years

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

WALLA WALLA -- A man who was driving a stolen car that hit and severely injured a teenage bicyclist has been sentenced to more than seven years in prison.

Ralph Mabry, 48, was ordered to serve 86 months -- six times the minimum -- for vehicular assault, hit-and-run injury accident and taking a motor vehicle without permission.

Mabry pleaded guilty Aug. 26.

The judge said Monday the minimum 13-month sentence was too lenient for Mabry's criminal history, which includes 16 misdemeanor convictions.
