Parks manager receives award
BELLEVUE -- Terry Smith, a city parks and recreation department manager, has received the Lewis Hine Award for Service to Children and Youth from the National Child Labor Committee.
The award honors Americans who have helped youth with their development and growth. Previous recipients include Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, singer Harry Belafonte and entertainer Oprah Winfrey.
Smith has been instrumental with programs for children, teenagers and adults, especially those with developmental disabilities. He helped develop and implement, "It's About Time for Kids," a plan that focused on youth and their contributions.
