SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER STAFF
The Dome, as we all know, has become dust.
But its demise on March 26 continues to stir public hunger for Dome T-shirts, Dome postcards and, given the media blitz, Dome delirium.
And the more the public eats, to paraphrase an old African proverb, the more its appetite grows.
And grows.
So in what could be seen as the nostalgic equivalent of a mass feeding, demolition crews today will hand out palm-size pieces of Kingdome debris for free.
The giveaway at the demolition site begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. -- far longer than the 16.8 seconds it took for explosives to turn the Dome, along with its 25,000-ton roof, into a Paul Bunyon-sized flapjack.
Organizers expect today's event will draw several types -- the packrats; the memento seekers; the I-can't-wait-to-post-my-rubble-on-eBay-ers; and people for whom the word "free" is an invitation to party.
But Emily Post rules will be in effect: first come, first served; one piece of rubble per person.
Two more giveaways are scheduled for April 29 and May 13.
