The Hot List: Seattle's Sexiest Athletes

20 who sizzle on the local sports scene

By JIM MOORE
SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER COLUMNIST

People Magazine recently came out with its "Sexiest People Alive" issue, and Fox Sports is determining the "NFL's Sexiest Player" by vote online.

While looking at the pictures in People, the Go 2 Guy stopped fantasizing and started wondering -- Who are Seattle's sexiest athletes and sports personalities?

I conducted a highly scientific survey that involved, oh, about five or six people, none of whom wanted to be named, fearing repercussions of some sort, and I'm not sure why -- they will get all of the blame and none of the credit.

Women

Lauren Jackson: After appearing in Sports Illustrated's swimsuit issue and nude in an Australian magazine, Storm center reigns as Seattle's Sexiest Female Athlete.

Amber Prange: Others ranked below this unknown UW golfer might throw a red flag, but the ruling on the field stands.

Jackie Hollands: Another longshot comes in, this time from the Seattle Pacific basketball team.

Leanne: Sonics dancer and calendar cover girl has more moves than Ray Allen.

Lisa Gangel: New KING/5 sportscaster played basketball for Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla., and fills out the starting five here.

Candace Lee: Someone said every player on the UW volleyball team qualifies, but senior from Eugene is the choice.

Sequoia: One Sea Gal had to make it, and sources directed me toward Fae, Amie, one of the Tiffanies and Jenna, a first-grade teacher, but I went with this former Oregon State cheerleader because her dog is her most prized possession, plus she's a mortgage broker with a strip-club name.

Kristen O'Neill: A junior from Meadowdale, this UW basketball player has an all-around game that includes a great smile.

Sue Bird: Surprisingly low ranking for Storm guard -- subjectively speaking, she doesn't do much for me, and I'd assume vice-versa.

Angie Mentink: New mom with a new 'do, FSN anchor is a sentimental pick fondly remembered as the hottie Arlati from her single days.

Men

Matt Hasselbeck: Seattle's Sexiest Male Athlete, the Seahawks quarterback is "the hottest in town, hands down," said Sheila (not her real name). "He's got the most beautiful eyes, like Elizabeth Taylor eyes, Cal Ripken eyes. Georgeous skin, cute voice, great build -- if the dude had hair, it wouldn't be fair."

Joyce (not her real name either) thinks Hasselbeck's hot, too, but only "as long as he keeps his hat on. He's 400 times better-looking with a hat on. It's like comparing Superman to Clark Kent."

Apolo Ohno: Once named to People's "Most Beautiful People" list, Seattle speed-skater still makes 'em swoon. Said Joyce: "One word -- lycra."

Danny Fortson: Sonics' bad boy with braids. More Joyce: "The fact that he can put on a basketball uniform and get sweat-soaked while muscling his opponents to the floor with the same ease as his soft-spoken self sports a suit and smells better than any human being should...Hallelujah!"

Brandon Roy: Senior guard stands out on and off the floor -- if he's ever in a shooting slump, Roy will still be the hottest Husky.

Richie Sexson: Of the Mariners first baseman, Sheila said: "Most guys that are that tall aren't sexy, but he's just flat-out good-looking, and he's got a very sexy voice, too." Added Joyce: "Big Sexy is a big hunk of manly man."

Isaiah Stanback: Braids, smile and physique to go with being a starting quarterback -- it's an unbeatable combination ... away from Husky Stadium, anyway.

Lorenzo Romar: Seattle's sexiest coach in a landslide, but who was his competition?

Gil Meche: Of the Mariners' so-so starting pitcher, Joyce said: "Who cares about his record? Keep him on the roster for eye candy alone!"

Eric Johnson: Sheila likes the salt-and-pepper look, and KOMO/4 sportscaster's good sense of humor enhances his sex appeal.

Warren Moon: Of Seahawks' analyst and QB great, Joyce said: "The man might be hotter now than he was 30 years ago. Thank God for good genes."
