This Week's Hot Video: The Return of the King (extended edition)
The final installment of Peter Jackson's Academy Award-winning vision of J.R.R. Tolkien's literary masterpiece decides the fate of Middle-earth with massive battles, as well as Frodo's (Elijah Wood) final tempation with the evil One Ring.
The movie (on two DVDs) includes extra footage (50 minutes) cut from the theatrical release.
New foes (the sinister Mouth of Sauron) and greater dangers (an avalanche of skulls) await the heroes as the epic trilogy draws to a climax. Jackson presents the final chapter as a harrowing war spectacle that never loses its heart of friendship, valor and sacrifice.
The package comes with two discs of behind-the-scenes featurettes, including the crew's desperate race to finish the film days before its premiere. 250 minutes. Rated PG-13 for intense epic battle sequences and frightening images. (John Ryan)
