Classic screens in Seattle
Comedy-great Harold Lloyd's 1928 last silent film, "Speedy," will have a special Seattle showing on Thursday, Sept. 26, at the Egyptian Theatre with live musical accompaniment by the Alloy Orchestra.
The film casts Lloyd as a determined young man trying to save New York City's last horse-drawn trolley from extinction, and is famous for an elaborate chase sequence that is said to be an extraordinary visual time capsule of late '20s Manhattan. Babe Ruth makes a cameo appearance as himself. The Alloy Orchestra is the most celebrated of the ensembles that specialize in providing accompaniment for silent film classics, and its appearances at the top film festivals of the world (including Seattle's) have regularly been sellouts. "Speedy" will play one night only at the Egyptian at 7:30 and 9:15 p.m. Prices are $15 general admission, $9 for children and seniors. Advance tickets are available at the Egyptian box office.
