Things to do while you're here
If you're visiting, check out these spots:
- Walking tour of Carnation: Copies can be obtained at the Tolt Historical Society Museum in the Carnation Senior Center, Stephens Avenue and Bird Street, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays. The self-guided tour starts at Tolt River McDonald Park, on the south edge of town, and takes walkers past several historic buildings and points of interest.
- Tolt Historical Museum: Located at the senior center, it displays a large number of historical photographs, Indian arrowheads, pioneer tools and memorabilia including mementos from Tolt High School, which no longer exists. Open 8 to 5 weekdays.
- Camlann Medieval Association facility includes the Boar's Head restaurant offering 14th-century cooking and craft shops selling Middle Ages-style clothing and books. Planned special events include a spring festival May 2 and 3; a summerfest scheduled on weekends from July 18 to Aug. 30; a Harvest Festival Oct. 3 and 4; and a Yule Feast, on Fridays and Sundays each weekend in December. Directions: From state Route 203, turn east on Northeast Stillwater Hill Road two miles north of Carnation. The facility is one mile east of the highway, on the right.
- Carnation Farm is six miles northwest of Carnation. There is a gift shop, open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays, selling Carnation cow-logo T-shirts, caps, aprons and a variety of dairy-cow memorabilia. The farm includes a working dairy, which will be open to public tours each Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning in May; appointments for the general public tours are not required. Scheduled tours for school classes will be conducted from April 2 to June 11 by appointment only; call 425-788-1511 to make arrangements. Directions: From the west take Redmond-Fall City Road, turn off at Ames Lake Road and follow it over the hill and into the valley to the farm complex, a series of white-and-red buildings above the highway. From the east take state Route 203, turn off at Carnation Farm Road north of Carnation and follow it to the farm.
