Gig Harbor
Things to do while you're here

If you're visiting, check out these spots:

  • The Waterfront -- Any visit to Gig Harbor has to include a trip to the waterfront. On sunny days it features picture-postcard views of not only serene waters, but also snow-capped Mount Rainier. Shop at the many unique stores lining Harborview Drive. Dine at one of many restaurants. You can even rent a kayak, powerboat or sailboat and get out on the water. And be sure to make a stop at Jerisich Park with its public dock.

  • The Maritime Gig -- The Gig Harbor/Peninsula Area Chamber of Commerce and city officials have joined forces to start a new festival. Called The Maritime Gig, it will be held June 6-7 this year. Events include a fun-run, parade, regatta, live music and entertainment, salmon bake and the annual blessing of the commercial fishing fleet. For details, call 253-851-6865.

  • Farmers Market -- Farmers and artisans from King, Pierce, Mason, Kitsap and Thurston counties sell their wares at the Pierce Transit park-and-ride lot on Kimball Drive near state Route 16 on Saturdays from May 2 through October. About 75 vendors show up most weeks to sell a variety of plants, produce and handcrafted items. Hours: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • Gig Harbor Peninsula Historical Society and Museum -- The new museum at 4218 Harborview Drive has been open for less than two months. A visit will give you a glimpse into how things were when Gig Harbor got its start about 150 years ago. Old fishing gear, household goods and many other items are on display at the facility, which offers a room for historical research. Hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, or by appointment. 253-858-6722. No admission fee, but donations are accepted.
