Things to do while you're here

If you're visiting, check out these spots:

  • Kingston Farmer's Market is a fun way to spend a Saturday and find fresh produce and speciality crafts. The market is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May through October. Walk on a ferry in Edmonds and find the market at the ferry landing in Kingston. Info: 360-297-0316.
  • Sacks Feed & Garden and the Kingston Lumber Garden Shop have a good inventory of plants, gardening supplies and speciality gifts. The Feed & Garden specializes in nursery stock, animal feed, clothing and gifts, while the Garden Shop has bird feeders and houses, garden supplies, gifts and even dried flower arrangements. It's easy to shop both stores, located only a couple of blocks from each other on the main road up from the ferry dock, which leads to state Route 104.
  • Heronswood Nursery Ltd., is a plant lover's paradise. Visits must be scheduled in advance and the nursery is closed from February to May because of mail order volume. Catalogs are $4 -- a bargain because they are packed with information and delightfully written. Saturday seminars on such topics as propagation, pruning and designing containers are scheduled throughout the year and led by co-owner Dan Hinkley. Info: 360-297-4172. (See Jon Hahn's column this week for more information.)
