The independent Bush School has long been a favorite education choice for many Madison Park families because of its reputation and close proximity to the neighborhood. Originally a girls' school, it was founded in 1924 by Helen Taylor Bush -- a mother, mathematician and naturalist -- in her Denny Blaine home at 133 Dorfel Drive. This photo shows the first six students at work in Mrs. Bush's playroom in the 1930s. There are now about 525 students in grades K-12 on a nine-acre campus. The school became coed in the 1971-72 school year.
