- Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park: The biggest park in King County, and reportedly one of the biggest in-urban wildlife parks in the United States, it has more than 3,000 acres (about four square miles) of trails and wild habitat for deer, bobcats, porcupines, coyotes, bears, birds and sometimes cougars. Public access from Newcastle on the northeast corner (Red Town trailhead and Newcastle-Coal Creek Road and Lakemont Blvd. Southeast) and also various points from Issaquah. - The Golf Club at Newcastle: Still under construction, with one of two 18-hole championship courses scheduled to open April 1, 1999. The gorgeous site is worth a clear-day drive for incredible views of Puget Sound to the west and Cascades, Mount Rainier and Cougar Mountain to the east and south -- even if you can't afford the estimated $100 public green fees or private memberships (around $5,000, with monthly dues on some membership plans). Also planned for public access are a stunning clubhouse, restaurant and banquet facilities. Located at 7555 155th Ave. S.E. (entrance is off Newcastle-Coal Creek Road). - Factoria Square Mall: A popular regional shopping mall at the base of the Newport Hills area featuring movie theaters, eateries, big stores such as Lamonts, Target, Mervyn's and Nordstrom Rack and smaller stores ranging from gifts to discount shoes. Located near the intersection of 128th Ave. S.E. and Interstate 90, just east of Interstate 405.
- Newcastle Beach Park: A popular spot to enjoy Lake Washington, located at Southeast 50th Street, just west of railroad tracks and Interstate 405.
- Lake Boren and Lake Boren Park: You can enjoy fishing and solitude (mostly in the winter) in this relatively serene area off Coal Creek Parkway and Southeast 79th Street.
