Normandy Park
Things to do while you're here

- A place to walk: Wear comfortable shoes, travel light and compensate for a lifetime of elevator rides by gamely walking down a steep incline through 28 heavily wooded acres at Marine View Park. Destination: the city's only public beach. The occasional bald eagle, plentiful clams and stirring glimpses of the Sound reward the brave. Marine View Drive just south of Southwest 208th Street, Normandy Park.
- A time to remember: Stroll through stands of Madrona trees to the Memorial Rose Garden at the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Center where a monument is maintained in remembrance of officers killed statewide in the line of duty since 1856. Open daily, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. 19010 1st Ave. S., Burien.
- Strike up the band: Oberloh Woodwind and Brassworks is known for its repair, restoration and rebuilding of band instruments for local orchestras and visiting musicians. Tuba player Daniel Oberloh started the business with his father nearly a decade ago. Recent calls for service came from rock 'n' roll singer Bob Seger who needed to have a bass sax rebuilt in 12 hours, and blues horn player Clarence Clemmons. 18018 1st Ave. S., Burien.
- Drive by: The W.B. Tracy House, built 44 years ago on less than an acre on a wooded bluff overlooking Puget Sound, is one of three in the state designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright. William Tracy, a Boeing engineer, and his wife Elizabeth cast most of the 100 concrete blocks that make up this Usonian Automatic house. 18971 Edgecliff Drive, Normandy Park.
