Port Orchard was once called Sidney, after Sidney Stevens, an Illinois inventor who in 1885 bought 88.5 acres in the area for $900. The logging town is shown in 1891, a year after it was incorporated. The view is from Bay Street near Rockwell Avenue, looking west. The town of Sidney acquired its present name in 1903.
