Things to do while you're here

If you're visiting, check out these spots:

  • How to get there

Buy a map of Kitsap County, then take a ferry from Seattle's Colman Ferry Terminal to Bremerton or to Winslow on Bainbridge Island.Or, drive to Tacoma and cross north onto the Kitsap Peninsula via the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. Silverdale is at the north end of Dyes Inlet.

  • Shop

Visit Kitsap Mall. Have lunch there. Hike the sidewalks of Old Town and check out its gift shops.

  • Waterfront

Bring a shovel for the kids to dig in the sand at Waterfront Park. If you arrive by boat and intend to linger, the cost is $3 a night with a 72-hour limit. For reservations, call the Silverdale Marina at 360-698-4918

  • Take a hike

Meander up the Clear Creek Trail project, a work in progress. Guided tours are scheduled. For information, call Coreen Johnson, 360-895-1708. Watch for signs along Bucklin Hill Road near its intersection with Mickelberry Road Northwest and the Crista Shores retirement home.

  • Silver Bay Herb Farm

Located one-fourth of a mile south of Bucklin Hill Road at 9151 Tracyton Blvd. N.W., open Saturdays only from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Just poke around

Stay in the neighborhoods off the freeways and let your curiosity be your guide.
