Lincoln High School girls celebrate in an undated photo thought to have been taken in the mid-1940s. The school, which closed in 1981, will be home to Ballard High School students while a new building is under construction.

This photo, taken about 1950 at the corner of North 45th Street and Wallingford Avenue North, shows Wald's Market. The site was later Food Giant and is now home to QFC.

Marchers in a 1950s parade have been replaced by some 20,800 vehicles that travel North 45th Street each day. The street, residents say, has turned into a slow-moving "scenic route."

Opened in 1909, Wallingford's landmark Lincoln High School stood next to a dirt road during its early days, and the towering evergreens that now frame its main entrance scarcely reached the second story.
