Surprisingly, the countryside is little more than a stone's throw from the high-tech cities on the shores of Lake Washington. Between metropolitan Bellevue and the Cascade Mountains lie a number of small towns, whose founders were drawn by the abundant timber and rolling farmlands. But now the high cost of living in the urban core is nudging the suburbs into what was once rural splendor.
