Daily No On I-912: Scorn for transit
One of the issues raised by Initiative 912 is scorn for mass transit. So, the initiative would repeal money that must be used for roads, bridges and ferries.
But the "message" to Olympia includes a pitch against public transit. That is ironic because no regional transportation tax (which will be the next step in Alaskan Way Viaduct and Evergreen Point Bridge improvements) will pass without including money for public transit. Seattle voters won't go for roads-only.
Is I-912 a vote against mass transit? Possibly, or it could be the opposite; yes is a vote for region-specific spending and therefore mass transit.
It's tempting to think of more regional money for mass transit -- but we'd prefer transportation balance and a no vote on I-912.
