Recycling works

SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER EDITORIAL BOARD

It will cost a little, but it's hard to imagine a better place for recycling than in Seattle's parks.

Pushed by Mayor Greg Nickels and the City Council, parks and utility officials propose a $200,000 pilot project to try recycling glass, aluminum and plastic at 106 parks locations. It's impossible to excuse the absence of recycling in parks, where parents give children lessons about nature. When a Seattle P-I reporter raised questions last year, parks officials pointed to past difficulties getting public cooperation. A new generation of kids and parents will help us all make recycling work.
