BAYAMON, Puerto Rico -- Hugo Alcaraz-Cuellar and Kenji Treschuk scored goals, and goalkeeper Chris Eylander made nine second-half saves as the Sounders defeated the Puerto Rico Islanders 2-1 on Friday night in the first leg of their USL First Division semifinal aggregate series.
Both teams finished the match with 10 men as Sounders captain Danny Jackson drew a red card and Islanders forward Alejandro Gonzalez received two yellow cards. Neither will play in the series finale Sunday at 5 p.m. at the Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila.
Alcaraz-Cuellar converted a Leighton O'Brien corner kick in the 22nd minute, and Puerto Rico tied it on Peter Villegas' 25-yarder in the 39th minute.
The winning goal came near the hour mark after Roger Levesque found himself with pace behind the Islanders defense. Keeper Josh Saunders came out to cut down the angle on Levesque, who slid the ball across the 18-yard box to an on-rushing Treschuk, who netted his first goal as a Sounder.
