UW's Lawrence top ACHA scorer

Brett Lawrence of the University of Washington's club hockey team leads the ACHA in scoring at the halfway point of the 2001-02 season, according to statistics released over the weekend.

Through 16 games, Lawrence, a sophomore, has 53 points on 28 goals and 25 assists. Behind him in the ACHA West Region statistics, UW teammates Shaun Lawrence and Matt Carlson rank sixth and seventh with 36 and 34 points, respectively.

UW senior goalkeeper Scott Southard ranks No. 2 in the West Region with a 2.24 goals-against average and 91.10 saves percentage in more than 509 minutes over 11 games.

The West Region includes more than 540 skaters and 60 goalies on 30 teams. Nationally, the ACHA includes more than 2,000 players on 100 teams.

The unbeaten Huskies (16-0) start the second half of their season with games Friday and Saturday at Eastern Washington University.
