WHAT: Singer-songwriter John Roderick almost had it right with his excellent indie band Western State Hurricanes. But when that group collapsed, John teamed up with Harvey Danger's Sean Nelson and Death Cab for Cutie's Chris Walla to form the first incarnation of the Long Winters, a handle that references Roderick's years growing up in Alaska. A deal with Barsuk turned what was intended to be a recording project into a full-fledged band. After a number of changes, the lineup has solidified with ace-drummer Nabil Ayers, bassist Eric Corson and keyboard/guitarist Jonathan Rothman.
