New piano bar opens in Queen Anne

Chopstix, a boisterous "dueling piano" bar with bright-red walls and black-and-white tile floors, has opened at 11 Roy St. on lower Queen Anne.

With grand pianos placed back to back in a yin-and-yang configuration, the club's staff piano men -- Gary Lanz, Tim Buie, Jefrey Taylor, Billy Mac and Grant Stott -- provide rollicking sets of mostly rock 'n' roll classics, with lots of crowd participation and sing-alongs. Hanging on the wall is a gallery of piano heroes -- Elton John, Billy Joel, Ray Charles and Jerry Lee Lewis -- whose music provides much of the club's playlist.

The drink menu features such concoctions as Purple Haze ($6), Reggae Mojito ($6) and Sonic Twist ($5). There's also a Jamaican-inspired menu that includes the Jolly Mon Steak ($10.99), Island Chicken ($8.99) and (Count of) Monte Cristo sandwich ($8.99).

Hours are 5 p.m. till 1:30 a.m. Tuesday through Saturday, with music starting each night at 8. On Fridays and Saturdays, there's an admission charge of $7 a person. For more information, call the club at 206-270-4444.
