"Diamonds in the Dark" (Sugar Hill)
Massachusetts native Sarah Borges sounds more Austin than Boston on her roots-rocking second album. The jaunty opener, "The Day We Met," recalls Kelly Willis when she was still a rockabilly filly, and Borges could have picked up "Come Back to Me" hanging out at Antone's, the Texas city's iconic blues club (actually, she singled it out from an old X LP). There's retro fun to be had on both strong originals (her touching "Belle of the Bar") and covers (a twangy "False Eyelashes"), with the singer stepping up on the Tom Waits-penned closer, "Blind Love."
