SeattleNoise: H is for Hellgate

WHAT: Seattle indie-rock band featuring Jamie Henkensiefken (vocals and guitar), Ben Baier (bass), David Thomas (guitar) and Marie Calderon (drums). (Henkensiefken named the band for Hellgate Canyon near her hometown, Missoula, Mont.)

SOUND: A fascinating blend of folk, pop, indie rock, progressive rock and classical, with a hefty dose of riot grrrl energy.

QUOTE: "The music we play is inspired by far ends of the musical spectrum -- rock music that goes down easy and classical music that requires somewhat of an attention span to listen to from beginning to end," says bandleader Henkenseifken. "What I hope comes out in the end is a thinking person's rock song, something that's accessible but challenging."
