Bumbershoot: Seattle's Music and Arts Festival includes three comedy stages, a growing component of the festival, as well as the One Reel Film Festival, Seattle-Tehran Poster Show, dance and performance art, visual arts, theater, indie crafts, Flatstock and literary arts (among the slew of literary celebrities are graphic novelist Dan Clowes and Adrian Tomine, sci-fi legend William Gibson, authors Nathan McCall, Francesca Lia-Block and Kevin Sessums and many others).
In the realm of spectacle, one of Bumbershoot's highlights is Strange Fruit, a performing arts company from Melbourne, Australia, that blends theater, dance and circus while perched atop 12-foot poles that bend and sway in choreographed precision.
Three-day passes are available for $80 at bumbershoot.org through Aug. 15 and $100 thereafter. Single day-specific tickets will be available through the Bumbershoot Web site and Ticketmaster outlets, and beginning Aug. 2 at Western Washington Starbucks stores. There are no service fees for tickets purchased at Starbucks. Single day-specific tickets are $35 through August 15, and $40 thereafter. For more ticket information visit bumbershoot.org/tickets.htm.
A discounted ticket for seniors 65 and older, patrons with permanent disabilities and kids 6 to 10 (accompanied by a paying adult) will be available for $15 a day at two gates during the Festival -- and only on the day of the event (there will be no advance sales).
Bumbershoot is produced by One Reel, in collaboration with Seattle Center and concert giant AEG Live. The not-for-profit One Reel also produces WaMu Family 4th at Lake Union and Teatro ZinZanni. This year's presenter is Samsung Mobile.
